Holiday Home Series: Christmas Highchair

Welcome to The Holiday Home Series at The Yellow Cape Cod.

Today, I would like to share a quick (30 minute) and inexpensive ($20) project to prepare your home for guests.  Little guests.

This year, instead of pulling out the plastic highchair for our Christmas parties, I came up with a simple way to welcome our little friends/family members in festive style...

I picked up a wooden highchair at the Goodwill for $12 (on half off day).  It was in good condition and had a nice shape.

Here is how I did it:
I sanded the surface lightly with my hand sander and gave it a good dusting.  The screws on the tray hardware were stripped.  Instead of removing them, I taped them off with painters tape.

I gave it a light coat of spray primer.  In 5 minutes it was dry and ready for paint.  Krylon paint is amazing.  The finish is smooth and it dries completely in 15 minutes.

I gave the chair three light coats of Krylon Cherry Red Gloss paint.  I have tried many red spray paints and I like this color best.

It's so much cuter than a plastic high chair.

It's a fun holiday accessory even when we're not entertaining.

It's also a great way to freak your hubby out when he gets home from work and asks why there is a highchair in the house again...

The Red Dresser

I found this dresser at a local thrift store.  It wasn't vintage, it wasn't a super deal I couldn't refuse, it wasn't even cute.  Somehow, it made it's way home with me.

(Before)

Lately, I've been admiring brightly painted furniture.
I was really inspired by This Buffet- Turned Media Console.
The green she chose is amazing.

I went with Lipstick Red.  I was going to post a tutorial on the painting process but, why recreate the wheel?  Especially when there is an awesome tutorial like this one already out there.

My red dresser is our new buffet server/bar in our lower level Family Room.
