Holiday Home Series: Let The Kids Decorate

Welcome to The Holiday Home Series.  This year, I decided to loosen up and let the kids participate in the decorating more than I have in the past.  The result has been true perfection.  Not the kind of perfection we strive for when decorating but a truer perfection, the kind an adult cannot achieve.

Case in point, Hannah's Christmas Bedroom.

Hannah is my 11 year old daughter.
She is also my design assistant, my behind the scenes wingman.   She loves a good project and puts her heart in everything she does.

She's my sounding board when I am stuck on a project.  She gives it to me straight and her design advice is always spot on.

She re-designed her bedroom tree this year.  I gave her a $25 budget for the project.

She combined new decorations with special ornaments she has collected over time.

Each ornament represents a different phase in her life.

Her tree skirt is actually her first ballet tutu.   Oh, how I miss the ballet phase...

This year she decided to layer a turquoise sequenced tree skirt from The Dollar Tree over the tutu.
(Good call, Hannah).

She chose a white tree with colored lights.

Looking at this tree reminds me of how she has grown and represents her entire childhood.  To me, it couldn't be more perfect...just like her.

  1. So pretty! Great job Hannah! And what a sweet post!

I also have an 11 year old named Hannah, who has a turquoise blue room as well. I'll have to get her and my boys their own trees this year - that would be so fun!

  17. I loved this so much that I just had to show it to my daughter (also 11) and of course she now wants to have her own tree. Could you give some details on the size of the tree and where you purchased it? I can only find white trees with white lights. Thanks!

  21. Okay, I'm a married adult and I would replicate this tree in a heartbeat for my own home! I love the colors! I am a diehard fan of white trees, but my husband is far from a fan, so I pick my battles and stuck with a green tree this year. I love how the colors pop on the white tree though - so pretty. She did an awesome job!
