Stitch Fix Reveal - My "Sports Mom" Fix

Stitch Fix Reveal Day is one of my favorite days of the month (What is Stitch Fix? Click here to find out). The fix I'm about to share with you is one of my favorites so far. I requested a special theme. I asked my stylist to curate a "Wrestling Mom Fix". I explained to her that this time of year, my weekends are spent watching my two boys compete in wrestling. This means when I'm not in the design studio, I'm traveling and spending many long hours in crowded gymnasiums and arenas cheering on my littles.

(Max and Cameron, my little grapplers).

Somedays I'm in the bleachers, other days I'm sitting on the floor, mat-side. It's important that I'm dressed casually and comfortably. But, let's be honest, Sports Moms like to look stylish too! Even though my weekends are focused on the kids' events, I'd still like to have a little fun with fashion, just like I do during the work week.

Are you ready to see it?
Take a look at the"Wrestling Mom Fix" my stylist created for me...

SeaVees Monterey Houndstooth Lace-Up Sneakers

41Hawthorn Kiwi Cocoon Cardigan

Shawntel Distressed Skinny Jean

Mavi Jora Collared Cotton Top

Olive & Oak Daril Scoop Neck Knit Top

Along with these five pieces, inside the box was a personal note to me from my Stylist. Here are her thoughts on the items she selected for me, "For your chic Wrestling Mom look, I just had to start with distressed jeans. I saw some ripped jeans on your Pinterest Board and figured they'd fit the casual cool mom look perfectly. Pair them with the beautiful Olive and Oak knit for come color, or channel your inner Jennifer Anniston with the Mavi top and Cardigan. For shoes, of course, sneakers! These SeaVees are super cute and they're a must for staying cute and casual while emitting that "I woke up like this" look.".

In addition to the personal note from my Stylist, I also received style cards with ideas on how to wear the items she sent me.

I ended up keeping all five items in this fix. I'm in love with everything and my Stylist totally delivered the casual, "Sports Mom" chic look I was hoping for. The only problem I'm having since joining Stitch Fix, is that I can't keep my 17 year old daughter out of my closet.  Here she is wearing my new Wrestling Mom cardigan...

Saved By My Fix - All Accessories Stitch Fix Reveal

Last month I was literally saved by my fix! My husband surprised me with a last minute, weekend trip to Chicago to celebrate my 40th birthday. Ironically, my monthly Stitch Fix box showed up on my porch just in time!

It made packing for a trip, unexpectedly, at the last minute so easy! Neither myself nor my Personal Stylist had any idea about this trip, yet she sent me items that were perfect for a cold, fall weekend in Chicago.

(What is Stitch Fix? Click Here to Learn More)

Each month when I place my fix order, I have a chance to write my Stylist a note and let her know what types of items I may like to receive. This time, I requested an "All Accessories" fix. Here is what I said, "I would like to receive a box of accessories. Items that will be the "cherry on the top" of the outfits you have sent to me over the past few months. A purse, jewelry, scarves, hats, flats etc. would be wonderful. I'd especially love a winter coat".

Are you ready to see what she sent to me?
By popular request, I'll model the items in my fix for you this month instead of just showing you the pieces. Please don't laugh too hard, I'm by no means a fashion model and I haven't gotten the whole "selfie" thing down yet.

When my monthly Stitch Fix box arrives, there is usually at least one or two items that I'm on the fence about at first. I choose to trust in my stylist, follow her advice in my style cards and give these pieces a try. They almost always turn out to be my favorite "go to" wardrobe pieces. Case in point, these shoes... Green Suede Pointed Toe Flats...

At first, I did not like them at all. Then, I tried them on and thought they "weren't too bad". Then, after a few days of asking others what they thought of them and getting mixed reactions,  I decided just to wear them. They are now My. Favorite. Shoes.  I love what they do for my outfits, they give my everyday look a little something unexpected, exciting, and not typical "me".  Did I mention how much I love them? Look how cute they are with basic black leggings...

The next item in my box was a "love at first sight" piece, The Cossanay Wool Wrap Coat. Now this is something that I would have seen in a store and chosen for myself. I love the classic style of this piece.

For being a wool coat it's very soft. It's light weight which makes it a very nice layering piece. In spite of being un-lined, it is very warm. It's the most expensive item I have received from Stitch Fix, but I requested it and felt it was worth it for this Michigan girl. I'll get a ton of use out of it. In fact, I wore it the entire time we were in Chicago.

The next item was Brooks Cross-body Purse...

I am obsessed with this purse! It's large enough to hold all my things, but still small enough that it's not too cumbersome to wear across the body, or under my coat. The cognac color of the leather is so pretty that it inspired me to pick up a pair of matching riding boots.

The day we left for Chicago, I wore the cross-body bag and new boots with black leggings and my Jana Poncho (from my last fix). It was the perfect traveling outfit! It was so comfortable that I wore the same outfit on the way home.

The next item in the box was a soft, black and white, fuzzy, plaid scarf. I love this scarf because it is long enough to wrap around my neck loosely, but not too bulky.

Once we got to Chicago, I was surprised again by a group of our friends that were there waiting to celebrate with us. We took a night-time walk along the Navy Pier and my scarf layered over my jean jacket (from another fix) kept me snuggly warm.

(40th Birthday Selfie with My Best Girls on the Navy Pier)

The last item in my fix was something that I would never have selected for myself. When I first saw it, I wasn't sure how to wear it without it looking like I was wearing a (gorgeous) throw blanket. Then, I read my Stylist's suggestions on how to wear this piece and I gave it a try.

Turns out, I wear it all the time. Especially in the design studio and when I'm out and about, running errands. It's a perfect piece for someone, like me, who prefers to have temperature control options without having to pull layers of clothing over my head in public. If you are one that worries if you will be hot or cold when you get somewhere, this is a great piece to grab on your way out the door.

It is a very light weight shawl-like piece that can be worn over the shoulders or around the neck, like a blanket scarf. My 16 year old daughter can't keep her hands off it either.

One of the reasons I signed up for Stitch Fix was because I wanted to experiment with updating my wardrobe without spending hours shopping for myself. I also wanted a fresh perspective from a professional stylist to push me out of my comfort zone and introduce me to things I usually wouldn't choose for myself. My Stylist has done just that while still taking into consideration my lifestyle, personality, basic style preferences, budget and most importantly, my shape (figure). With every fix, it gets better and better.

Since I wrote this post, I have received my December fix and I can't wait to share it! It's a really fun fix with a unique theme that I requested.  Let's just say, she pinned it down perfectly.  To learn more about Stitch Fix and how it works, please visit them through my affiliate link: stitchfix.com/referral/8546020

What Was in My Fall Stitch Fix This Month

This morning, I'm taking a little break from Interior Design to talk fashion. Recently I told you guys about my obsession with Stitch Fix and shared some of my recent "fixes" with you. If you missed these posts or if you're wondering what the heck Stitch Fix is, click here or here.

I typically request to have my Stitch Fix Stylist send me one fix per month. But this month, I'm preparing for a Fall Color Tour and Wine Tasting Weekend with the girls so I treated myself to an extra fall fix. I am so glad I did!  My box arrived the other day and the items my stylist selected for me are perfect for my upcoming trip!

I ended up keeping everything in the fix with the exception of one item, which I'll tell you about in a minute. First, take a look at the style cards and the personal note my stylist sent to me inside the fix...

Each style card gives me a couple ideas on how to wear each of the five items she selected for me. These style cards are one of my favorite things about the Stitch Fix experience because this is where I feel I need the most help, putting complete outfits together and experimenting with new looks without looking like I experimented.

Here is what I received...

(Mae Poncho, Grenaa Blazer, Emerson Booties)

(Greenich Top, Jason Scuba Skinny Pants)

I'll start with my favorite item, the Mae Zipper Detail Poncho. It is a stunning, cowl neck sweater poncho. This will be perfect for my Wine Tasting trip up the Mission Point in Traverse City. I adore the simple, classic, equestrian style of this sweater and couldn't possibly love it more. Aside from the outfit inspiration she provided on the style card, my stylist also suggested that I wear this poncho with leggings and riding boots.

The next item in the box was the Greenich Striped Knit Top. This top was very soft and comfortable and had the cutest black patch on the elbow. This was the one piece in the fix that I didn't end up keeping. As much as I liked the colors and the style, I just didn't love the way it fit me.

Next inside the box was the Jason Scuba Skinny Pant. These are amazing. They are the most comfortable and flattering leggings I have ever worn. They are very unique in that they have the feel and fit of a legging, but the pockets, button and zipper give them the look of a trouser.

When I reached in and pulled out The Grenaa Knit Blazer, I was originally a little indifferent to it. My first thought was that it was a little flimsy and unstructured for a blazer. Once I tried it on I realized that is exactly what I love about it! It is so soft and comfy, the unstructured fit allows it to drape nicely. I have already worn it twice in the two days since I received my fix. It is the perfect go to piece for the days when I want to look pulled together and professional, yet I need to be comfy. These are the times when I really appreciate having a stylist that pushes me to try things on that I normally would pass over in a store on my own.

The last item in my fix was a pair of the most adorable, suede booties. The Emerson Tassel Zip Booties in chocolate brown. These booties have the look of the popular suede bootie that everyone is wearing this season, but the lower heal makes them a very practical and comfortable option. They will be so cute on my trip, yet sensible for walking.

Thanks for letting me share my favorite fall fix with you today. If you decide to give Stitch Fix a try, I would love to hear about your experience!

What Was In This Month's Stitch Fix Box

A few weeks ago, I told you all about my new obsession with Stitch Fix (if you missed it, click here) I shared one of my recent "fixes" and you guys responded that you wanted to see more. Well today, I received another Stitch Fix box in the mail! I took some pictures to show you what my personal stylist chose for me this time!

Each month this little box shows up at my door. Inside are a total five articles that consist of clothing, outwear, accessories, shoes/boots, jewelry, etc. Each item is selected specifically for me by my personal Stitch Fix Stylist. The first thing I see when I open the box is an envelope that contains a personal note to me along with style cards for each item in the box. The style cards provide outfit inspiration and ideas for styling the new items with other pieces (things that I already may have in my wardrobe).

Here are the style cards for the items I received today...

I peeked at the style cards before tearing into the tissue. Just by looking at the cards, I could tell that my stylist nailed this fix. This month, I asked her to select pieces to help transition my wardrobe into fall. I created a pin board and went a little nuts pinning outfits that appealed to me (click here if you want to see my Fashion Pin Board.) This helped her get a good sense of my fall fashion crushes.

The first item out of the box was this incredible knit poncho (The Jana Poncho).  It's a soft, chunky, gray, knit pullover sweater that's perfect for layering. It has a really cute fitted sleeve with high slits on each side that give it a little more shape and style than your average sweater poncho. This will be my weekend "Football Mom" staple piece.

The next item was a little more on the dressy side (The Gareta Lace Back Blouse). I'll be honest, when I first saw it, I was a little indifferent to it. Once I tried it on, I was floored at how much I loved this top. The fit is flattering, the light color looks amazing with dark denim pants and the lace detail on the back is so romantic. I never would have chosen this top for myself, I'm so glad my Stylist selected it for me.

The Elyse Printed Slim Straight Leg Pants were next. These black dressy leggings are on the "business casual" side making them a great choice for weekdays. They feature a very subtle herringbone pattern that gives them a little more interest than your average black dress pants and the slim fit is very flattering. They are kind of like a combination of yoga pants and suit pants!

I may have squealed when I pulled out The Callie Denim Jacket. This light-washed, deconstructed jacket is just what I need to give my beloved summer tank tops and sundresses a new fall/winter life. I've already thought of a thousand things in my wardrobe that I can layer under this jacket.  I can't say that I wouldn't choose a jean jacket for myself, but I can say I may not have chosen one that was this heavily distressed. Again, I am so glad my stylist chose it for me, because I love how the distressing makes my outfits look a little more youthful.

The last item in my box is my favorite item in this month's fix. The Barb Perforated Peep Toe Bootie is the cutest thing I've ever seen.

I ended up keeping 3 of the 5 items in this fix. There were two things I decided to send back, though it wasn't because I didn't love them. The pants were so cute, but they were too long for me. I also (very reluctantly) sent back the booties due to the open toe. I LOVED the look of the open toe, but for a Michigan Girl,  I would not be able to wear them very long without risking frostbite.

This month's Fall Fix was my favorite fix so far. Even though I only kept three pieces, I will be taking my stylists direction and finding a pair of similar booties (with a closed toe) and some patterned black dress leggings to add to my wardrobe.

So far, Stitch Fix has been a fun experience. My stylist has selected some pieces for me that I would never have picked for myself. These pieces quickly became my favorites. Aside from the convenience of not having to shop for myself, I really enjoy having the fresh perspective of a Professional Fashion Stylist.

Stay tuned for more! I've requested to receive one fix per month.

My New Obsession - Stitch Fix

As an Interior Decorator, I feel that it's important for me to dress both professionally, and fashionably.  Whether I'm out with clients or hard at work in the studio, the look I want exude is neat and classic, while stylish and on-trend. I've always wished that I could put together an outfit as easily as I can put together a room. But instead, I find myself frustrated when it comes to managing my wardrobe. My problem seems to be that I gravitate towards the same things every time I go shopping. The biggest issue I have is time. Running a busy design studio during the week and keeping up with three active children on the weekends doesn't leave me with a lot of time to shop for myself.

A few weeks ago, I heard a friend talking about Stitch Fix and I decided to give it a try. I was sold on the idea of having a personal stylist look at me with a fresh perspective and suggest some staple pieces to update my wardrobe. I also wanted a few key items that were out of my comfort zone, some pieces I wouldn't normally choose for myself just to shake things up a bit. What began as a short term experiment has since turned out to be a great experience and I don't plan on quitting the service any time soon. I'm hooked. Here is how it worked, after taking a survey (where I answered questions about my size, shape, lifestyle, profession, personality and style preferences) I was assigned a personal stylist. She began putting together "fixes" of five items chosen specifically for me that consist of clothing, accessories, handbags, jewelry, outerwear, shoes, etc. She will do this as often as I like, I have requested to receive one fix per month. Once my fix is delivered, I have three business days to decide if I'm going to keep any of the items or send them back. (You can read more about how Stitch Fix works here).

Yesterday, I received my third fix.
Here is what was in my box...

The Evella Boaneck Top, a classic striped top that features a boatneck design and the currently trending faux layered look. The Curperino Eyelet Detail Top, a crisp white, ultra-feminine, sleeveless top with eyelet and lace detailing around the top and on the front.

The Grady Waffle Texture Cardigan, a super soft and cuddly, long, textured cardigan sweater in a muted medium blue color.

The Jones Booties, A colorful, suede bootie style shoe that features a faux wooden heel. The last item in my box was the Elizabeth Super Skinny Jean. These jeans are actually more like a legging (or jegging) rather than a traditional jean in my opinion. They feature an elastic waistband and have a lot of give and stretch in them.

Stitch Fix also sends along a style card that provides inspiration on how to style each item in your fix. For example, here is a style card for the Evella Boatneck Top that was in my box...

This style card shows two different ways this top could be styled with other pieces. The look on the left is one that I could see myself in, running errands or watching the kids play sports on the weekends. The look on the right is a perfect weekday outfit that is great for shopping with clients or for day in the studio.

I have really enjoyed the Stitch Fix experience so far. I've kept most of the items they've sent to me in my first three fixes. In this particular fix, I kept the Boatneck Top, the Eyelet Detail Top and the Super Skinny Jeans. I returned the cute booties and the blue cardigan. There were a few reasons why I returned the booties, I loved them, but they were a little bit of an investment and the color was not one that I could see myself wearing a lot. I really loved the soft blue cardigan, but I already had something similar in my closet.

I'll be back in a few weeks to share my next fix with you! Feel free to share your fixes over on my Facebook Page.
