Formal Dining/Living Rooms Converted To Home Office/Reading Rooms

Today's featured Online Design Plan is a recent project that I've been excited to share. It's a great example of making the best use of your space depending on your lifestyle. My hope is that it may inspire you to take another look at the rooms in your home and decide if they are really working for you.

This was a Two Room E-Design Project. The home is a newer build and the original, intended purpose of these two adjacent rooms were "Formal Dining Room" and "Formal Living Room".  My client really wasn't using these spaces in this way and she was in need of a "Home Office".  She asked me if we could convert the "Dining Room" into a "Home Office" and the "Formal Living Room" into a "Relaxation/Reading Space" for her family. In addition to changing the purpose of these spaces, she wanted us to give them a new, high-style, glam-inspired look that would make a stunning first impression upon entering her home (these spaces are located in the front of the house, adjacent to the foyer). She requested that we use a combination of budget friendly merchandise and quality pieces that would last. After consulting with her and getting to know about her style preferences, budget and lifestyle, here is the Two Room Design Plan we created for her...

Family Glam~A high style family friendly space

Today's featured online design plan is a great example of "Family Glam".  This sophisticated design plan was created for Beth's formal living room. It's shows how a family friendly space can still look hot (check out the legs on that table;). 

Beth and her young family just moved into a new home.  We had the honor of designing several rooms for them, including this one.  The formal living room is adjacent to the foyer.  It is the first space you see upon entering, so it has to be special. 

Her request was for the space to be sophisticated with a glamorous feel, yet still family friendly and comfortable. 

 At first glance, you may wonder how a light sofa is family friendly.  This one has a removable, washable slipcover .  We also gave her a pair of dark gray upholstered chairs which are very forgiving (not to mention gorgeous). 

Let's talk about the table…this silver leaf, turned leg table is a perfect modern translation of traditional style.  The metallic finish is a gorgeous complement to the dark wood bookcase and end tables we placed in the space.  The silver finish is also found in the framed artwork we placed over her sofa.

Speaking of the dark wood furniture, this bookcase (which coordinates with the end tables we gave her) is a stunning piece... 

 Not only does it lend a rich, dark wood tone to the design, but it also gives the room height.  Filled with colorful decorative accents and family photos it's a stunning visual display.  The top shelf can also be used as a cocktail "bar" by incorporating decorative bar accessories.  This will be the room where Beth and her husband enjoy adult time after the little ones are tucked in.
