Design Dilemma: Can I Add Blue to My Mostly Red and Yellow Decor Theme?

Happy Tuesday! I'm excited to make the announcement that we currently have a few open spots for new online design projects! Now is the time to make your reservation before we fill up again! Fall/Winter is the busiest time in the design studio. We spent the last few weeks working OT so we could offer openings during our favorite time of year (queue seasonal nesting mode).

In addition to starting new projects, I'm looking forward to sharing some of our recently completed design work. Like this sitting room e-design that we just delivered to our client, Kristen...

Kristen came to us for a design plan for her sitting room. This space is the first area you see upon entering her home. It overlooks an amazing pool and patio. Kristen wanted to play off the view by incorporating blue as an accent color. She wasn't sure if it would flow with the colors used throughout the rest of her home.  Most of the first level is decorated in warm autumnal colors, mainly red and gold. Well, we came up with a plan that gave Kristen a design that embraces a cool blue color palette along with an injection of red and hints of gold for seamless flow with the rest of her home.

Most of the merchandise we put in her design plan happened to be "off-the-shelf" items from her favorite retail stores. Some elements were budget friendly, online purchases, like these custom chairs that look very high end. They complement her existing sofa perfectly.

The rug we chose (a Pier One find) features a gorgeous color palette and eye catching design. The rug has a mainly blue background, but picks up on the red and gold color scheme used in the adjacent areas.

A pair of unique accent tables flanking the sofa give the space interest and personality.

These large scale lamps are the perfect touch on the new console table we placed under the window.

To dress up the sofa, we selected a collection of pillows in hues we pulled from the rug.

Kristen already had a fabulous piece of art over her sofa. To draw more attention to the piece, we recommended that she flank it with this pair of large scale candle sconces.

On the opposite wall, we balanced the art with a pair of unique and budget friendly carved wooden plaques highlighted with a blue color wash.

We selected a rich, espresso stained table set (coffee table, side table and console) to contrast with all of the light upholstery which gave the design depth. Kristen already had a great start on table top accessories, such as a gorgeous collection of ornate candle lanterns.

Here is a look at the true to scale floor plan illustration we created that shows Kristen where to place everything in the space...

The items featured in this post are just some of the design elements we included in Kristen's custom design plan. For more information on how our Online Design Plan Service works, and to see what is included please click here. If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.
