I recently had the opportunity to visit Sarah and view the completed room re-design.

Here are a few of the pictures she sent to me when the project began:

Sarah and her Hubby EJ, did an amazing job on this room. They researched board and batten tutorials and completed the project themselves. Sarah purchased the fabrics and sewed the curtains and table runner. After purchasing the rug, they decided to keep the current wall color. It looks beautiful with the new white moldings. Sarah found some great new accessories that compliment the new look perfectly.

She has great style and a gorgeous home. Being able to view the completed project and see how happy she is with the results is the best part of my job.

Amazing Baby Blanket Wedding Dress

Today's post is not necessarily about interiors. It's more about the concept of taking something off the rack and customizing it to become totally unique.

A technique that I absolutely love to apply to interior design.

Don't you agree that dressing your baby bassinet with your wedding gown is the sweetest thing?

The Chronicles of Windy Ridge

The sentiment behind a wedding dress becoming the baby linens is so romantic.

Recently my friend Lindsey got married and her Mom, Linda, took this idea in the opposite direction...

She used Lindsey's baby blankets to create her wedding dress.

She started with an elegant off-the-rack wedding gown,

and embellished it with over 500 hand stitched rosettes to create this magnificent one of a kind dress.

Each rosette was created using fabrics from Lindsey's baby blankets and high school formal dresses. It is a beautiful representation of her life from the beginning to the day she was married.

She also incorporated vintage jewelry, buttons and imported ribbon on each hand crafted rosette.

Here are the friends and family who helped her. The process took months but the result was soooo worth it.

She even made a matching flower girl dress....so cute!

Won't this dress be the most adorable bassinet someday?

What a great example of how something purchased off-the-rack can be personalized into something totally unique. Now that you have seen this bright, beautiful wedding color scheme, you have to see their wedding cakes...

Two Dollar Lamp Makeover

Lamp makeovers are so much fun. I found this lamp at Walmart. You couldn't beat the price, $12.95. I could easily pay more than that second hand shopping. I also picked up the red drum shade there as well.

My original plan was to spray the base Kelly Green. I may still do that but for summer, I like the white. It has an understated nautical feel.

It was nice but, a little boring. So, I picked up a spool of white grosgrain ribbon and hot glued a stripe around the top and around the bottom.

Then, to make it even better, I gave it a twin.

This lamp "makeover" cost $2 and took less than 5 minutes. You will probably see these again, when I decide to go for the green.

The Red Dresser Part II

Recently I posted about this dresser. I found it at a resale shop and I think I bought it simply because I felt sorry for it. It was so ugly.

Originally my intention was to use it in our Lower Level Family Room as a Buffet Server for parties.

I ended up really liking it after it was re-finished. So, this weekend I recruited my 11 year old daughter (Aka, my design assistant) and we hauled it up the stairs into the Formal Dining Room/Home Office.

Not only does it provide a well needed pop of color but it will be a great Serving Buffet for Formal Dinners. Since this room has a dual purpose, it will be a perfect place to store office supplies and design files when I need to use it as my Home Office.

I do not know the history behind this piece. I do not believe it is an antique or holds any value. I think it may be a replica of a piece like this one over at Natty By Design. She also painted hers vibrant red.

Here is what it looked like when I rescued it...

I know one thing for sure, it is very, very, very heavy...just ask my back :)

Builder Grade Bathroom Gets a Custom Look

Recently, we gave our builder-grade Powder Room a facelift.

Here is the new room...

The room was pretty boring originally. To give it an upgrade without spending a lot, I started with paint. "Lobster Red" by American Signature @ Lowes and "Tailors Chalk" by Martha Stewart.

The paint color was Hubby's choice. I usually go neutral. He asked for red so, he received.

I primed and painted the vanity, taking it from medium oak wood grain to clean crisp white. Hubby installed 1x4 baseboards and quarter round trim.

The formica counter top was replaced with "Absolute Black" Granite. The basic builder faucet was upgraded to polished chrome.

The towels are from the PotteryBarn Outlet.

The other chrome fixtures were a housewarming gift from my parents when we purchased our home 7 years ago. They set the tone for the new faucet and vanity hardware.

I took the frameless mirror and transformed it into a custom feature by simply glueing a thick frame directly onto the glass. I have shared this link before, it is a great tutorial on this project, Janell Beals How to frame a Mirror.

Our tiny little powder room has a 20 foot vaulted ceiling. To keep the room feeling intimate, my husband installed floating crown moulding at 9 feet to create a break in the wall color. It's a simple solution if you have high ceilings and don't know where to stop and start the wall/ceiling paint colors.

It's also great for people like me who like to change the paint color often without the need for scaffolding.

For accessories, I kept it pretty simple. I placed a fresh Orchid in a white pot on the vanity and hung french plaques from Hobby Lobby from black ribbons.
