First Step in our Bedroom Makeover

Instead of sharing just one dramatic before/after post of a makeover I have in the works, I thought it would be fun to show the process of the room transformation. A few days ago, I shared my plan for a mini makeover in my Master Bedroom. If you missed it, here is a look at the design board I created to illustrate the new look...

This bedroom makeover was inspired by a blog post I wrote for the Country Curtains Blog. In the article, I shared three simple ways to give any space the "Casual Comfort" look that we are all so in love with right now. I explained how to introduce Elements of Nature, Add Layers and Utilize a Mainly Neutral Color Palette while maintaining lots of interest. After writing the article, I decided to follow my own advice and apply these three concepts to my very own master bedroom.

The makeover is now officially underway. New window treatments were the first change I made in the space. I selected these amazing Sheer Linen Rod Pocket Curtain Panels from Country Curtains to layer over my existing natural fiber roman shades.

Here is a peek...

You can see in these images how these beautiful panels allow the natural sunlight to filter into the space making it feel light and bright. What I love most about these drapes is that they combine easy care polyester with the luxury and texture of linen.

The new window treatments touch on all three of the concepts that were addressed in my Casual Comfort blog post.  The natural fiber roman shades bring an element of nature to the design. The beautiful fabric drapery layered over the natural romans gives us multiple layers. Lastly, the warm, white color of my new drapery panels is a timeless, effortless, neutral color.

The rest of the makeover is now underway. The plan is to continue to apply the three key Casual Comfort concepts to all of the elements being introduced into the space.

In an effort to keep costs down, but still attain a luxurious look, I have decided to hit up some local discount home stores. One trip last week was particularly successful. I was able to score a lot of pieces that were very similar to the items I placed in my original design board at a fraction of the cost. Take a quick look at the little pile of goodies I came home with...

Normally I would have the room painted prior to installing the drapery panels, but my painter was booked until next week and the show must go on. The new color I have selected is "Naval" by Sherwin Williams. The bulk of my design plan is neutral in color, I can't wait to give it dose of one of my favorite hues, navy blue.

Now that I have a new paint color in the works and a good start on the accessories,
I'm getting pretty excited to see the new space come together. Here are some of my plans based on the three Casual Comfort Concepts...

1. Bring In A Little Nature
-Nature Inspired Art
-Live Plants/Foliage
-Accessories Found In Nature

2. Add Layers
-Layered Rugs
-Layered Bedding
-Layered Vignette and Shelf Arrangements

3. Utilize a Mainly Neutral Color Scheme While Keeping The Space Interesting
-Neutral Linens
-Combination of Neutral and Colorful Paint
-Use of Pattern
-Layers of Texture
-Colorful Accessories

The Casual Comfort look is perfect for my lifestyle. I'm very excited to have the opportunity to put one of my guests blog posts articles into action!

Stay tuned for more updates on this room transformation.

    1. Hi Lisa! Thank you very much. Our bed was purchased when we were first married 17 years ago at a discount home store (Big Lots). It has been very good to us for many years which is a bonus considering it was very inexpensive (cheap). When I first bought it, I fell in love with it because it reminded me of my great grandmothers antique sleigh bed.

  2. Thanks for sharing!! We actually have similar dark furniture and the exact same grey bedding from Pottery Barn, and I loved how you punched it up with the navy! Might have to do that myself ;)
