This kitchen belongs to my clients; Sara and Erik. You have seen a few makeovers from around their home here on the blog. This project has been the most exciting so far. We have been busy working together on this project for the last few months. I've shared little sneak peeks on my instagram feed so it may look familiar to some of you. While I tell you how this kitchen makeover came together, let's take a look at the dramatic before and after photos...
Here is what the kitchen looked like before…

There is so much to share about this makeover that I've decided to break in down into a few posts. Tomorrow I'll be back with a closer look at the space with all the details and specifics on the materials used, paint colors, product sources, etc.

This project began last summer. You may remember the post I wrote on the "before" kitchen. Sara and Erik liked their kitchen before the makeover, but they were looking for ways to improve function, incorporate more storage and bring a custom, more personalized look to their home. A brand new custom kitchen was the answer.

After sharing the "before" kitchen on the blog, it was gently removed and sold to a new family who was in the process of renovating an old farmhouse not far from Sara and Erik's home. Selling the old kitchen was a great way to help offset the cost of some of the high end features of the new kitchen.

In addition to enhancing the look of the home, the new kitchen improves the function of the entire lower level. Secret storage areas and doorways incorporated into the amazing wall of cabinetry (shown below) cleverly disguise a hard working family command center/computer desk, a walk-in pantry/utility room, a beverage station and…wait for it... a play room for the kids!
This brand new custom kitchen is the collaborative work of myself, Architect Christopher Macklin, Custom Cabinet Maker Chad Gladding from Gladding Custom Cabinetry, Carpenter/PM Rob Toth and homeowner's Sara and Erik.
Don't forget to stop by tomorrow for a closer look into the space.

Oh my goodness... I would have a really hard time choosing The finished product is really so much more my style and the one I would love to have, but the original is really adorable. I really love both sets of lights over the island. So glad you pointed out that old kitchen was gently moved to a new home. I wonder if this is going to be the first of many kitchen renovations we see that go back to cabinetry over open shelving and, as the economy improves, fewer and fewer budget friendly kitchen trends ( Ikea butcher block countertops and the big Ikea apron sink). Of course, I'm still working up to the first kitchen budget-wise...lol! You created a beautiful, timeless kitchen....I am sure the family is just thrilled!

DeleteI have a question...We are going to replace the flooring on our bottom floor, including the kitchen. I noticed this remodel has wood in the kitchen, but several flooring stores have told us not to put wood in the kitchen because of water issues. I would really prefer wood, but am worried about water issues. What is your opinion?
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that it is a personal preference. Personally, I love wood floors in the kitchen. There are other options available that have the look of wood that are more tolerant of water. I would do a little research on the different products available before deciding what is the best choice for you. I hope that helps. Sarah
DeleteKinda surprised vendors are telling you not to put wood floors in your kitchen. We put wood floors in our kitchen years ago and love it. Most of my friends also have wood floors for their kitchens and have had no issues.
DeleteBeautiful space! I love every detail!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Sarah. The kitchen after remodeling is so beautiful. I love it. It's a good idea for those wanting to improve the value of their homes.
