Gigantic Snowflakes~Buddy Approved

Every Christmas we take a trip to a small town in Michigan called Frankenmuth.  Frankenmuth is the home of the world's largest Christmas store; Bronners Christmas Wonderland.  We think it's pretty special because Santa (the real Santa, not one of his helpers) is there.  Last year when we were visiting I fell in love with these gigantic, glittered, 3D snowflakes hanging throughout Santa's workshop.

I couldn't stop thinking about them after we left, so the next day I went back to Frankenmuth and filled up my sleigh.  After our Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Magazine shoot, I hung them over our mantle with fishing line and clear command hooks mounted on the ceiling.  It was a fun addition to our Christmas decor and got a lot of attention from our guests.  There were even a few accusations that Buddy the Elf helped me decorate.

This year, I re-purposed the snowflakes and gave them a little makeover.  As much as I loved them as they were, I wanted to make them sparkle even more.

I took them apart and gave each side a quick coat of "Dover White" spray paint.  While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled them with pure white glitter.  As I was working on this project in the back yard, these guys paid me a visit.  I guess these snowflakes peaked their interest also...

This year I used the snowflakes on our family Christmas tree.  Instead of assembling them I left them apart and used the halves as large, graphic ornaments on our tree.

These snowflakes make a big statement on our small tree.  They may be slightly over the top, but they make me smile.  Smiling is my favorite.

  3. Love your blog and love it even more knowing that you are a fan of my home town, Frankenmuth! It was a wonderful place to grow up and is a great place for a get-a-way weekend. The shopping is great and as a bonus, there are very few "chain" stores...just about every business is privately owned.
