Time to update the boys room. Their favorite place to be is on lake at our cottage in Northern Michigan so, that was my inspiration.
I chose a dark navy wall color w/ nautical stripes.
The theme was also inspired by this vintage detroit boat race poster from my husbands childhood...
We brought the dresser home from our cottage. It was updated with a coat of black paint, polyurathane and new brushed nickel hardware.
I stole these old boat oars from my Mom. I have plans for them that I will share later but for now they are resting in here.
I found this compass rose wall decal online. I cut out the center and place it around the ceiling light. The original plan was to hand paint it but this route was much quicker (and easier to remove later).
The vintage sock monkey was made by my aunt when I was a child. It has seen better days but he keeps an eye on the boys for me.
I can't wait to share whats going on in their closet...
No space in our house is safe.

ReplyDeleteI love so many things about this room. So crisp and boyish! That decal is spectacular! I might have to file that one away. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen you say online, where online did you find that compass wall decal. I want one in the worst way. That is just to awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt looks fantastic. I'm so excited to have found your blog. I love to decorate but honestly, I pretty much suck at it. Glad to see your ideas. I saw the compass on the ceiling and thought maybe it was a Peter Pan theme, which would also be super cool, but love the nautical.
ReplyDeleteDo you live on Cape Cod? We usually spend 2 weeks in Chatham every summer.
Newest follower in the house. Would love if you'd swing by and say hi!

Gorgeous room - love everything about it! The compass on the ceiling is genius! Fantastic job - very well done! Hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. Happy Fourth! ~ Stephanie Lynn
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone. I appreciate all the comments! Sorry it's taken me a while to respond. I have been on vacation. To answer some of the questions, the compass decal came from ModernWallGraphics.com and the colors I used were Barn Red and Pewter from Martha Stewarts new line of paint @ Home Depot. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteBest Regards, Sarah
Sorry for the confusion…the navy wall color is "Wrought Iron" by Martha Stewart, NOT "Pewter". Wrong metal:) Thanks, Laura for bringing this to my attention. Best, Sarah
DeleteYour boys room looks beautiful. I am thinking of doing something similar for my sons first big boy room. I have the same light fixture as you, what size compass did you use around the light?
ReplyDeleteYou sure did this room up so well! I just love the colour combination and the nautical touches throughout - well done! I linked this to my childrens rooms post too, just had to share!

ReplyDeleteHi - what a great boy's room! You are very talented and creative. We are moving our 2yr old son into a big boy's bed and are also doing a nautical theme. I love the compass around the light fixture. I think we have the same light fixture as you, what size compass did you use around the light? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNicole,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the sweet compliments. I do not remember the exact size but it is around three feet from tip to tip. I hope that helps!
Regards, Sarah

I just saw this room on Pinterest and I LOVE it! My boys have a nautical/sailing themed room too. My husband and I were at odds when we painted our horizontal stripes and we vowed we'd never do that again! I also have that APBA poster somewhere and might have to dig it out to hang in their room.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across this post while trying to find a red nautical lantern for our nautical themed nursery. This room is amazing! Hopefully our little boy to be loves the ocean, boating, diving, as much as we do and I can adapt his room with some of your ideas as he grows. Do you remember where you bought the red lanterns? It's the exact kind of lantern I want for his room and I can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

Sara, my brothers would LOVE that compass. Do you recall where you got it?
ReplyDeletePS - I LOVE your site. I have pinned so many pictures of rooms and so many of them end up being from your site!
Thank you! The compass decal came from Modernwallgraphics.com. Hope your brothers enjoy it. :)
DeleteGreat job! Can you please provide me with the width of the stripes that were painted on the walls?
