Video: Client Dining Room Before and After

When Kristen came to me for an Online Design Consultation, one of the first things I learned about her family is they love their family time spent together on Cape Cod every year.
I took that theme and ran with it.

Here is the Online Design Plan I came up with:

More to come on this project.  Since Kristen sent this photo, she has added the finishing touches.  As soon as I get the photos I will be sure to share them.
Kristen and her husband have done an amazing job implementing the design.

Projects Inspired by The Yellow Cape Cod

I love getting photos of projects from readers.  It is so exciting to be a part of the blogging world where we share experiences and project tutorials.  It's amazing how we all draw inspiration from each other.  I am completely humbled and flattered when I receive photos of a project that I helped to inspire.

Today I would like to share a few projects that were inspired by projects at The Yellow Cape Cod.

These ladies all did a fabulous job.  Their drapes look wonderful.  Each room has a unique personality even though they have the same drapes.

Inspired by The Family Command Center, Paige took a family heirloom (her Grandfathers shelf) and took it from the image above to this:

Isn't it gorgeous?  My favorite part about this project is that she was able to take something with special meaning and update it to fit into her home decor.  Click on the link to see the complete tutorial.

Thank you, ladies for sending me your projects.  You are all such an inspiration to me.

If you have completed a project that was inspired by one of your favorite blogs, I would love to see it and share it with my readers.  Please email photos of your completed project along with the link to the blog post it was inspired by to theyellowcapecod@yahoo.com.

Taxidermy Makeover

You've got to love a great garage sale find.  I was so excited when I found a set of steer horns last week at a sale for $25.

Finds like this excite me because it allows me to follow current decor trends without spending a lot and then feeling guilty after the trend has run it's course.

After they got a mini-makeover, I hung them in my Dining Room/Home Office.

This is what they looked like when I found them....

The tan leather, silver studs and rope trim were not about to make their way into my dining room so I called upon my very best friend:

Krylon paint sticks to anything.  I taped my horns with painters tape and gave the trim two coats of off white spray paint.

Here are a few horn inspiration collages.  All images courtesy of Pinterest.

Isn't this a great idea?  Antler jewelry display.

Silver antler mount...love it.

How cute is this?  Decorate your antlers for Christmas.

One Kings Lane and West Elm have really cool taxidermy art pieces.

Taxidermy is a great conversation piece.  These horns have stirred up a lot of controversy in our home.  Some of of us love them and the others "don't get it".  What do you think?

Living Room Before and After

I recently had the opportunity to work in a few areas of this gorgeous home.
It's an estate-style traditional located in a private, tranquil setting.  The client's unique style made this project tons of fun.

Here are a few before and afters of the Living Room...

To Anchor the room, we re-arranged the furniture, added a tall black bookcase from Ballard Designs and a huge wool area rug.

I used a mix of the clients collectibles with some new purchases to accessorize the bookcase.  The black finish showcases each piece and creates a dramatic backdrop for her treasures.

The Lazy Boy was replaced by three large floor plants in multi-colored pots that accent the new rug.

I painted the oak mantle black to coordinate with the new bookshelves directly across the room.

The beautiful area rug is from Home Decorators Collection and provides an amazing color palette.
She recently had the dark hardwood floors installed and the walls throughout the home painted soft white.
