Black and White Birthday Bash

We had my daughters 10th Birthday party yesterday. She has officially grown out of the character themed party decorations she loved in the past (YES!). This year we classed things up a bit and chose a black, white and red palette.

For the table scape, I used a round black mirror for the base of the cupcake tower. Then, I stacked up my white cake plates and loaded it with custard filled cupcakes. I love the pearlized sprinkles I found at Hobby Lobby. Party bags stuck here and there, curly ribbon tossed around and a few balloons completed our decorations. Very simple and low cost.

Thanks for the idea Pottery Barn!

(Pottery Barn)

(My version)

I saw these cute pillows in the latest Pottery Barn catalog. They were way over my budget with a price tag of $99 just for the pillow covers (not including the inserts).

So, I decided to make my own. I made them out of second hand feather pillows and a canvas painters drop cloth. My version cost less than $20 for all four pillows.

Much better deal!

I've Been Featured...

Have you ever "Googled" yourself? I did it just for fun and guess what I found? I was featured on HGTV's Design Happens! Here is the link for anyone who wants to check it out.
How fun!!

Black Mantel

Potted Amarilys "Before"

Potted Amarilys "After"

Fireplace "After"

Every year, after the Christmas decorations come down the house feels so sterile. This usually spurs a change of some sort. This year it was the mantel. It got a fresh coat of black enamel and it really made a difference.

I came across these potted Amarilys on clearance for $1 each. I brought them home and re-potted them in clay pots. Aren't they a pretty little Valentines accent?

Thanks for all feedback and comments. I have really enjoyed visiting all of your blogs as well!

Hallway

Believe it or not, this ordinary looking hallway is my favorite area in the house.
Everything here has special meaning to us.

My Dad made the shelf for me for my first home as a housewarming gift. The large photo of him driving his boat is my favorite. The rock was given to us by our church to signify our faith.

My Dad also built this doll house for my little sister when we were kids. We put it up on casters and use it as a bookcase in our new "office nook" (I'll post photos of office project soon!).
Thanks for stopping by!
